For most of the last 2.5 years I haven’t had a toilet. I get in the car and drive 10 minutes to find one. And before you make up your mind about that: I can afford a toilet. I choose this.
In this video I’m walking through 14 things I’ve done in the name of freedom, and what every single one of them actually cost me. Living out of a Troopy and a van. Buying 110 acres of off grid land on a hunch. The shed renovation that nearly broke me. Refusing to sign a lease. Staying debt free. Selling my first house in Iceland. Ending a relationship because I wanted to travel more. One job in my whole career and no plan B. And the last one, the one people always react to, which is why I’ve deliberately waited to have children.
None of this looks like the version of freedom you’d put on a Pinterest board. But every one of them was a deliberate swap, and every one of them bought me something I wanted more than I wanted comfort.
I’ve been a nomad for 18 years. I’m 37, I’m rebuilding a shed, a business and a whole chapter of my life at the same time, and I genuinely don’t know how it turns out yet. That’s the fun part.
