In this episode of the Everything Electric Tech Show, Imogen Bhogal travels to Botswana’s Chobe River to experience the Pangolin Voyager — Africa’s first all-electric, solar-powered luxury houseboat. And yes, we are very aware of just how lucky we were to showcase this particular story!
Designed by Guts from Pangolin Photo Safaris, this 35-metre floating hotel can house 20 people and runs entirely on sunshine, powered by 80 solar panels and 240 kWh of onboard batteries. With zero emissions and silent operation, it enables ridiculous proximity to wildlife. Safe to say, it totally blew us away.
The Voyager’s propulsion system uses axial flux motors from RAD Propulsion, leveraging its high-torque slow-spinning propellers, and smart data analytics to deliver an ultra-efficient, perfectly spec’ed, whisper quiet cruising experience.
This is a really special episode filled with all the usual hallmarks of an Everything Electric Episode – but is also sprinkled with a bigger message that hopefully reminds us all why we care so much about the adoption of clean energy technologies. Enjoy!
