CATL CEO: Sodium Battery Will CHANGE The Entire EV Industry! – Electric
A groundbreaking sodium-ion battery from CATL, the world’s largest battery manufacturer, is set to revolutionize the global energy and automotive industries. Unveiled recently, the Naxtra battery offers half the cost of lithium-ion phosphate batteries, higher energy density at 175 watt-hours per kilogram, and a lifespan of 3.6 million miles while retaining 80% capacity. Operating flawlessly in extreme temperatures from -40°C to 60°C, it maintains 90% usable capacity, addressing range loss issues in harsh climates. With a charging rate of 400-500 kW and over 10,000 cycles without significant degradation, it outperforms competitors. China’s new safety standard, effective July 2026, mandates thermal runaway protection, which Naxtra exceeds, reducing fire risks. By using abundant sodium instead of lithium, it mitigates supply chain concerns and slashes costs, potentially disrupting EVs, energy storage, and fossil fuel markets. CATL is integrating these batteries into its expanding battery-swapping network, with 103 stations activated in August alone, offering drivers convenience and affordability. This innovation threatens South Korean and other global manufacturers, whose lithium-ion investments face obsolescence, while promising cheaper EVs and sustainable energy solutions worldwide.
