Pure Direct DC off grid power! Our house is currently being wired up for wall-to-wall direct PV DC #solar electrical service. After years of research, testing and development of these ideas, this is the start of something new! In this video I will explore the future of solar power. Included is a live demo of my direct PV-DC hybrid micro grid with battery backup (PV2L-MG). The system is in the process of being rolled out to power not only my house, but other buildings on our homestead property. Bigger and more powerful low voltage DC appliances are in development as well.

I will document some of the background and history of this technology, and outline the general theory of how the system works with NO inverter and NO charge controller and NO DC Conversion. It does not need or use high voltage (HVDC) and can effectively run various custom DC appliances. Later videos in the series will address the technical challenges of running bigger appliances and an entire household on low voltage PV DC with optional battery support.
We are building a new solar farm to power the system and currently acquiring all the parts and materials needed for a complete rollout. It has been very expensive and time consuming. My house currently has a total of 3 installed PV-DC outlets and several appliances already using them.
Sadly, it’s very hard to find appliances that can consume 55v PV DC. There are few choices, and they tend to be overpriced. Therefore I have been developing, building and testing my own custom appliances for several years. I hope that manufacturers will respond by giving us cheap, reliable and safe low voltage DC appliances – it’s surely a great business opportunity.
