How Solar Energy Is Bringing Power Back to Puerto Rico
After watching Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastate his native Puerto Rico, architect Jonathan Marvel knew he needed to do something to give back. Along with a group of friends he launched Resilient Power Puerto Rico, using the strength of renewable, solar energy to bring power back to the island. These solar micro-grids created spaces where people could refrigerate medication, filter water and find refuge in the midst of a humanitarian crisis. At last count, Marvel’s initiative was able to bring power to 20 community centers, helping over 100,000 people in the process. It’s also a huge step towards a sustainable, Earth-friendly future for the island.
